The Courtroom Smile

She kept twisting her juror badge like it might disappear. First time in a courtroom, you could tell—the kind of nervous that comes from wanting to do right by something bigger than yourself.

During the lunch break, I watched her sit alone, re-reading the jury instructions. Another juror walked over, sat down, and said something simple: "You're doing great. We're all just trying to figure out what's fair."

Her whole posture changed. Not because the trial got easier, but because she wasn't alone in it.
