The Dodgers Hat

A grandmother wears her late husband's favorite team cap to the grocery store and receives an unexpected gift from a stranger.

Maria pulled on her husband's faded Dodgers cap—the one he wore every summer for forty years. She hadn't worn it since he passed, but today felt right.

In the cereal aisle, a young man stopped her. "That's a beautiful cap," he said quietly. "My grandfather had the same one."

They talked for ten minutes about baseball, about the people we love, about how certain things hold us close to them. When they parted ways, he turned back.

"You know, my grandfather always said the best thing about being a fan is believing in something together. I think he'd want me to tell someone that today."

Maria smiled beneath the worn bill. Some days, the people we've lost whisper through strangers. Some days, a simple conversation reminds us we're never really alone.

She wore the cap again the next week.
