The Grocery Store Stranger
A small act of kindness in the cereal aisle reminds us that connection happens in the most ordinary moments.
Today at the grocery store, an older woman was struggling to reach a box on the top shelf. Without thinking, I grabbed it for her.
She smiled—really smiled—and said, "Thank you. My grandkids love these."
We talked for maybe two minutes. About nothing special. How busy the store was. Whether the bananas looked good today.
She went her way, I went mine.
But walking to the checkout, I felt lighter. Not because I'd done something grand, but because for just a moment, we'd seen each other. Two people among hundreds, pausing long enough to acknowledge that the other person existed, mattered.
Those moments are everywhere if we slow down to notice them. They cost nothing. They change everything.
